MCUAAAR is a collaborative research effort between the University of Michigan and Wayne State University. MCUAAAR is one of six national Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR) focusing on investigating and reducing health disparities between minority and non-minority older adults. MCUAAAR is funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). 
The African American Aging Summer Immersion for Science Teachers (AASIST) program is funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the National Institute on Aging of the National Institutes of Health and is a one year fellowship to enhance and enrich science and social science curriculum by providing middle school, high school, and community college teachers with a unique educational opportunity to learn about the field of minority aging. 
AASIST fellows will be exposed to an innovative program focusing on research, translation and dissemination opportunities designed to increase the educators’ knowledge of the increasingly important field of minority aging and health disparities. The AASIST fellows will receive instruction from national and international aging experts on the campuses of Wayne State University and the University of Michigan. Fellows will work closely with established MCUAAAR faculty to develop a research project and present their findings at a national meeting.
We are seeking for superintendents and principals to nominate outstanding middle school, high school, and community college science and social science teachers in the greater metropolitan Detroit area who are committed to academic excellence in teaching for the AASIST Fellowship program. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to teaching life course aging with a focus on minority populations.

In Michigan's tough winters, heating your home can be a matter of life and death. Many families are struggling to make ends meet right now, and are finding it difficult to make their utility payments. That's why Michigan offers the Home Heating Credit to help struggling families pay their utility bills. However, the deadline to apply for this program is Sept. 30.

Income limits do apply. You can get more information about the program and how to apply by calling the Michigan Department of Treasury toll-free at (800) 827-4000, or on their Web site, www.michigan.gov/heatingassistance.
